The smell is strong initially, went away quickly especially after watering. It’s a very fine compost and I applied it to my asparagus beds

Smelly? Yes, and some dogs find it very tasty, just be aware. My best vegetable gardens, ever. Never have a problem with burning. Worked in at planting, then used to top dress over season.
